Draka Comteq Announces Plan to Restart
Claremont, North Carolina Optical Fiber Plant


Claremont, North Carolina USA - May 17, 2005...

Draka Comteq announced today plans to restart operations at its North American optical fiber manufacturing facility during the third quarter of this year in response to the growing popularity and demand for its optical cables and fibers.

In 2004, Draka Comteq became the second largest supplier of optical fiber worldwide.  "As our customer base and business grow, it is critical that we continue to provide our customers with a reliable uninterrupted supply of quality innovative products," states Mike Amicone, President of Draka Comteq's Americas operations.  "This is a natural step that demonstrates our drive and commitment to provide superior service and high-value products to our North American customers."  Phil Edwards, President of Draka Comteq's Global Optical Fiber Division, adds, "The restart of the Claremont optical fiber manufacturing is part of our global strategy to further cement our leading position in the optical fiber market.  Through our Claremont operations, we will reinforce our position in the American market significantly by offering the latest generation fiber products and full services portfolio to our customers."
