HiCapXS Extends Multimode Fiber Spectrum for FTTP and Access Networks
Claremont, North Carolina USA - April 29, 2005...

Draka Comteq's HiCapXS Multimode Fibers are being featured as part of alternative Fiber-To-The-Premise (FTTP) and access solutions at the upcoming 2005 BICSI Spring Conference. This unique multimode fiber provides extended wavelength spectrum across the entire 1240-1550nm range, vastly exceeding the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standard.

The HiCapXS fiber family enhances link performance in laser-based Gigabit Ethernet applications including support for economical Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-LX) systems up to 6,500 feet (or 2 kilometers). HiCapXS answers the growing interest in the use of laser-optimized multimode fibers as a cost-effective alternative for the drop portion of networks serving multi-tenant buildings, campuses and enterprises with point-to-point active Ethernet architectures.

HiCapXS can reduce total network cost by enabling the use of cost-effective multimode connectivity and lasers with relaxed spectral characteristics while maintaining scalable multi-channel CWDM capacity across a wide wavelength range unprecedented in multimode fiber. In addition, there is no need for expensive mode-conditioning patch cords commonly required with other laser-optimized multimode fibers.

"HiCapXS is a forward-looking extension of our HiCapTM and MaxCapTM laser-optimized multimode fiber families," states Ryan Chappell, Business Manager for Draka Comteq's optical fiber division in North America. "Our customers continue to look for ways to deliver the benefits of fiber while reducing total network cost, and we are delighted to work alongside them to enable this through innovative optical fiber designs.

Draka Comteq's HiCap and MaxCap multimode fibers are part of a complete best-in-class solution that enable businesses, industrial, municipal and enterprise clients to implement reliable, flexible and cost-effective fiber cabling systems. Draka Comteq's complete fiber cabling solutions will be featured at the 2005 BICSI Spring Conference, May 2-5, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada (Booth #615).
